Learn More About Recycling Electrical Equipment & Batteries

1. What's This?

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is any item that has a plug or a battery and is at the end of its useful life. WEEE is an ever-increasing source of waste and one of the most harmful in the developed world. Batteries and electronic goods contain heavy metals, such as mercury, cadmium and lead, that can pollute water and soil and are dangerous to our health.

Battery Disposal

To remind consumers to recycle, all electrical items sold now carry the 'crossed out wheeled bin' symbol.

Under current Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations all producers of electrical equipment are obliged to pay for an electronic item to be recycled when it can no longer be used. All retailers must actively assist in delivering a WEEE collection infrastructure and encourage the participation of consumers in recycling electronic equipment.

zooplus SE is a member of the European Recycling Platform WEEE & Battery Compliance Scheme represented by an authorised Representative, ERP Ireland DAC.

2. Where can I recycle?

Recycling WEEE makes sense as many of these devices contain valuable metals and components that can be reused in other products. It also helps to protect the environment by ensuring that hazardous waste is disposed of safely.

Never put WEEE, batteries or light bulbs in any of your bins.

zooplus will take back your WEEE on a like-for-like basis, batteries on a one-for-zero basis. WEEE and used batteries can also be returned to your local civic amenity site free of charge.
